Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)

Eyes are the first place people look when they see your face. Age and sun-related changes can appear there more dramatically than in other parts of the face. Eyelid skin gradually loses elasticity and can present as sagging or redundant folds. Even when it does not interfere with vision it can give a tired or sleepy appearance. In some cases the skin can be tightened with laser or radiofrequency treatments. Sometimes that is not enough and a surgical approach is indicated.
Loose or excess eyelid skin can be removed in a simple, one-hour procedure in our office. With only local anesthesia the surgery is quite comfortable. The recovery process includes some bruising and swelling for 1-2 weeks. Dr. Becker is an expert at identifying the least invasive approach that will address your concerns. Whether it is skin tightening, surgery or some combination, restoring youthful eyes is possible. As an outpatient procedure, blepharoplasty only needs local anesthetics to be comfortable.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a simple surgery where Dr. Becker will remove excess tissue from around your eyes. The procedure is performed by making a small incision on the eyelid and then removing excess tissue. The scars from the incisions are hidden by the natural creases of your eyelids.Lower lid fullness can be corrected without a visible incision in many cases. Using a transconjunctival approach, the fullness can be corrected while leaving the overlying skin intact. The incision is made behind the eyelid and leaves no scar. Both lower and upper blepharoplasties are relatively quick outpatient procedures, taking 1 – 2 hours depending on the area.

What to Expect with Blepharoplasty

During a consultation, Dr. Becker will talk to you about your concerns and create a custom treatment plan for you. During the procedure, you have the option of taking a sedative in addition to the local anesthetic. If you choose the sedative, you will need to plan for a ride home. While you can have the procedure without the sedative, we highly recommend it. You should plan on about 1 – 2 weeks of downtime. We will see you throughout your recovery period to ensure proper healing and recovery.
