Laser Hair Removal Q & A

How does laser hair removal work?

Rinnova Skin & Body uses the GentleLase Pro Laser, proven in clinical studies to be the most effective laser hair removal device for most skin types. The heat energy from the laser damages hair follicles in treatment areas so they can no longer produce hair. The laser penetrates the outer layer of skin and causes no damage to surrounding tissue.

What areas can be treated with laser hair removal?

Most areas that grow unwanted hair can be treated with laser hair removal, including the:

  • Bikini
  • Underarms
  • Legs
  • Back and chest
  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Upper lip

Talk to one of our skilled providers about your areas of concern, and he can help determine if laser hair removal is right for you.

How do I prepare for laser hair removal?

You should shave the area to be treated in advance of treatment. Don’t wax or pluck hairs, however, for six weeks prior as you want the follicles to be intact, and avoid time in the sun prior to treatment as laser hair removal works best on untanned skin. Also avoid any tanning beds, spray tan, or self tanners.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Laser hair removal does cause some heat and tingling, similar to the snap of a rubber band, but GentleLase Pro Laser is less painful than competitor systems. You may have some mild discomfort during the procedure, but this resolves quickly after your treatment.

How many sessions will I need to see results?

Exactly how many sessions you’ll need to achieve permanent hair removal depends on your hair density and thickness as well as the area treated. Most people do well with about six visits, scheduled 4-6 weeks apart. Darker hair responds best to the treatment.

Does laser hair removal require downtime following treatment?

You can go right back to all of your normal activities following a laser hair removal session. You may have a little redness in the treatment areas, but this resolves quickly. Be sure to avoid the sun for at least two weeks after treatment because your skin is temporarily extra sensitive to ultraviolet rays.
